1. Look up local businesses in your Phone book

2. Write down the names of the businesses (25-30 is all you need to start)

3. Look the businesses up on the internet to see if they have a website.

4. If they have a website, check to see if they have an email capture form on their homepage.

If they don’t, you’re in business!

5. When you have about 25-30 “prospects” send them this letter:

My name is ______________ and I am a local e-commerce
business consultant.

I know your time is valuable, as is mine so I’ll get right to the
point. If I could show you an unused asset that you ALREADY
have that could make you thousands of dollars, would you be
willing to speak with me for 15 minutes?

This free consultation can save you as much as 50% of your
entire monthly advertising budget AND bring you brand new
customers at the same time! The best part is that you already
have it, so the cost to implement this marketing weapon is
minimal.

Please call me at (your number) at your earliest convenience to
schedule a free “no strings” consultation. I promise you, it will be
worth your time.

The “unused asset” they have is of course their website which has no list building capabilities.

By building a proper customer email list they can cut their advertising dollars at least in half, so they can just send a customer email blast about an upcoming sale instead of paying $4,000 for a full page ad.

6. Get a “Confidential” stamp from Staples or an office supplies store and stamp the front of the envelop (this will triple the likelihood the business owner will open your letter)

DO NOT mass mail that letter! You
really only need to mail 25-30 per
week and you’ll be busy.

7. That’s it! Believe me when I say that your phone will ring off the hook.

8. Now that you have the clients calling you, you’ll simply setup a time to meet over the phone.

9. During your meeting ask the business owner questions about their business, what their advertising costs are, and what their return on investment is from their ads.

Note: 90% of business owners have no clue on how effective their advertising is…many just laugh when you ask the question!

A great opening line to make them feel comfortable giving you this information is to say,

“John, in order for me to help you I need you to help me.”

Then, start asking about their business.

After you listen to their story, tell them about the cost-effectiveness of email advertising. Being able to advertise to all your customers with the click of a button will sound VERY appealing.

Tell them that you can spend a couple hours with them going through how to set everything up.

(Hint) – get a little technical here…your objective is for them to say, “I don’t have that much time…how much for you to do it?”

An easy way to do this is just to say, “John, it’ll only take a couple of hours. Just a little HTML and email copy…”

Customer: “HTML? email copy? uh…How much?”

The fact is, most business owners don’t have the time to learn something, nor do they even understand what HTML or an email autoresponder means.

Believe me, even if they ask you to show them their eyes will glaze over after a few minutes and they’ll ask, “How much?”

10. If they bite (and most will), tell them you can setup everything for $250 – $500 (choose your price point) and have it ready to go by tomorrow.

11. Before you walk out with your check, change their cash register and credit card terminal receipt to read,

“For Preferred Customer Discounts Sign Up At: (their website)”

There is a toll free number on the side of every register and terminal for support.

Just call them and they will walk you through changing it. It only takes about 10 minutes.

12. After you leave, go home and setup an auto-responder account for them.

Note: Aweber.com and GetResponse.com are great auto-responder compaines. If your customer wants you to manage their list (most do) then you can just set up a new email list on your account and charge them a monthly fee for maintenance.

If they want to manage their own auto-responder sign them up through your affiliate link (monthly, residual income!)

13. Copy the email form code from your account and paste it on their existing site! That’s it!

Here’s how I do it:

I usually visit their site, right click and select “view source” and save it in notepad.

Then I open the notepad in an html editor and simply copy and paste the code where the email form goes.

I use Trellian pagebuilder, which is free and allows me to preview the finished site.

Then, send it to their programmer and they can swap it.

Done!

Note: If you don’t want to learn how to do it yourself you can outsource the work for pennies on the dollar via Elance.com, Freelance.com, the Warrior Forum, etc.

Note: There are a lot of upsells you can do with this, but here’s the most common…

I usually get a question from the owner on,
